Whatever you do, work at it with all your heart, as working for the Lord, not for human masters.
Someone wrote your name next to one household and one ask. That row is your whole assignment. You do not need the rest of the board, and the rest of the board does not need you.
Do the thing they asked for
If the row says a meal on Thursday, bring a meal on Thursday. If it says a ride to an appointment, give the ride. Do not upgrade a small ask into a renovation, a fundraiser, or a surprise visit with friends. The household already said what would help. Believe them.
Tell the coordinator the same day
When it is finished, tell the person who gave you the row. A short message is enough: done, or they said they no longer need it. If you cannot do it, say that the same day, so the row can move to someone else. Silence is how a promise expires.
- One ask. The words on the row, not a better idea you had on the way over.
- One person. You. Do not add helpers unless the coordinator and the household both asked for them.
- One report. The same day: done, declined, or I cannot. Then you are finished.
A no ends the row
If the household says they no longer want the help, thank them and stop. Tell the coordinator. Do not negotiate, and do not come back with a different offer. A no is a complete answer.
The board you are on is explained in the board a flood coordinator actually uses. The note that created your row is the note after a flood visit. A card you can keep in a pocket is on the resources page. If you are serving in Lincoln, Ontario, the current doors are on the homepage.
